What improvement on ORAC was made by Brunswick Laboratories?
In collaboration with Dr. Ronald Prior of the USDA, the scientists at Brunswick Laboratories significantly improved the ORAC assay. Briefly, B-PE was replaced by a stable compound called fluorescein. Since fluorescein is a synthetic fluorescence compound, it will not interact with the tested samples. In addition, unlike the original method the current ORAC method is suitable for both water-soluble and fat-soluble antioxidants. Furthermore, we successfully integrated the hydroxyl radicals into the assay.
