There are two transgenes associated with AD. APP and TAU. The APP model is the beta amyloid plague and the Tau model develops neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs). It usually takes about 12-13 months to show neurohistological findings. Animals can be obtained at about 3 month old or so.

• Pathology criteria include: neuritic plaques with Campbell-Switzer staining
• Behavior testing: water maze.
